Snorlax and the Turn That Waited | A Pokémon Battle Story about Resting Without Losing Your Place
A gentle battle story for young children about resting when your body asks for it and finding your place still waiting for you.
Snorlax has a rule he made up all by himself: he takes every single one of his turns, all the way to the end. So when the game reaches turn seven and his arms come up slow, and he has to sit down in the grass to catch his breath, the thing he is really afraid of is not the stone. It is that the counting will go on without him.
Elsie has already said the rule out loud: if anybody stops, the whole count starts over. So Snorlax gets up anyway, and pushes, and stops halfway across the field, and sits down beside his stone. Nobody takes a turn. Cassian walks out to the middle of the field and sits down next to him, and tells him that ten was his own idea, not Snorlax's, and that the game is not going anywhere. Snorlax stops holding his eyes open and sleeps in the wide green road from his very first turn, while Elsie does not count and Rattata's little round stone stays exactly where it is. When he wakes up the sun has moved, and his turn is still out there in the grass, waiting.
