One day a Sikh who was a family man came to see Guru Har Rai Ji, the seventh Guru. This man worked hard to take care of his family but when he came to see the Guru he was very troubled. He told the Guru that for many years he had wanted to leave everything and come stay in the Guru's service. He said, " I want only to serve you and earn salvation in the next world". Then he told the Guru how he had a son who would have taken over the family responsibilities but, sadly, the boy had died. "All my hopes are shattered, what can I do?!" he asked the Guru.

One day a Sikh who was a family man came to see Guru Har Rai Ji, the seventh Guru. This man worked hard to take care of his family but when he came to see the Guru he was very troubled. He told the Guru that for many years he had wanted to leave everything and come stay in the Guru's service. He said, " I want only to serve you and earn salvation in the next world". Then he told the Guru how he had a son who would have taken over the family responsibilities but, sadly, the boy had died. "All my hopes are shattered, what can I do?!" he asked the Guru.

Whatever you do, wherever you go, you'll be a Singh and the world will know! Show them how Bold, yet Humble a Singh can be. For you are a son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. 

This story teaches us about patience. It happened during the time of Guru Arjan Dev, the 5th Guru. As he meditated for thousands of years the words of his master echoed as he waited to meet the Guru of the future kal yug...

It was very hot outside and they had been walking for a long time. Finally they reached a hill with a dwelling at the top. They were sure they would be able to get water there. A man lived there and had a well that everyone in the nearby village used to get water for washing themselves, growing food, and drinking. But he was very greedy and charged money before anyone could use the well.

There was a great drought, no water to drink or to grow food. Animals were died and the farmers became scared and desperate. A Brahman monk told the farmers, "The reason why there is a drought is because you are giving respect to a man who is not a Brahman. Everyone is treating this 'Guru Angad' like a holy man. Kick him out and I will bring the rain. The farmers listened to the monks false promise. What will Bhai Amar Das do when he hears the Guru was kicked out for this nonsense.

Amar Das ji rode to meet the True Guru. The Guru and Amar Das ji were related and Amar Das ji was a couple decades older. When Amar Das ji saw his saintly face, instead of hugging the Guru, Amar Das ji fell on his knees and said, "Please don't consider me your relative and don't even consider me your elder. Just take me as a student and show me the right path!" Amar Das ji devoted himself to the Guru's service for the rest of his life.

ONCE upon a time, a farmer's wife was sitting and sifting corn. All of a sudden a crow flew by and swooped off with a kernel of corn from her basket. The farmer's wife got really angry and threw a mud ball at the bird. She had such good aim, the mud ball hit the crow, who fell to the ground, the kernel of corn fell out of the crows mouth and it rolled under the roots of a great big Banyan tree. Then the sister said, "I know where you keep your allowance. Bye! I'm taking it!" So he finally stopped playing his game, "No stop!.... Ok, I'll go with you. but it doesn't matter. Adults are all the same, they just like to talk."

Every day on his way to his fields, he passed by the house of a pundit who did many rituals and prayers, and Dhanna found this very interesting. When he was a teenager, Guru Nanak had the job of weighing grain. Sometimes he would accidentally give too much grain. When his boss heard about this he came over to see how much Nanak had given away for free. When the sun moved he was going to get burned by the hot rays. A cobra protected him from being woken up by spreading it's hood over him as shade. When the man found out he told Rai Bular, the village chief, to punish Nanak's father. Everyone went to see the field the cows destroyed. When the Pipal tree was found Guru ji told him that one day the Pipal tree will be even higher that the huge tree above it. "When it gets that high than the Khalsa will flourish in this world." Once they were hunting together and a tiger jumped out to attack the emperor. All of his royal soldiers were afraid and didn't do anything. The Guru himself got off his horse and cut the tiger in half, saving the emperors life.
