๐ Swimming Without Looking | A Backstroke Bedtime Story About Confidence and Trying Something New
Isadora loves giraffes because they can see everything coming. Then she moved up to a swim group that races on its back.
Six-year-old Isadora has always loved freestyle. Face in the water, she can follow the black line on the bottom of the pool and watch the wall get closer every lap. So when Coach Ella moves her and her best friend Louise up to the Barracudas, the faster group, it feels like the best day of the season. New blue cap. Deep lane. And one new thing: backstroke.
On her back, all she can see is the ceiling. So she counts two strokes, maybe three, and rolls over to peek. Every single time.
Then, ten minutes before her first race as a Barracuda, a penguin floats past on his back like he's lying in a hammock.
A calm bedtime story about trusting what you know, even when you can't see where you're going.
๐ Backstroke means you can't see the wall, and that's okay ๐ฉ A real swim trick: the flags, and four strokes to the wall ๐ง Waddles the penguin is back, with Hudson and Davina from The Maplewood Swim Meet ๐ฆ A girl who loves giraffes, and a doll named Samantha who never misses a meet ๐ฆ Cookies and cream after the race ๐ Ends lying on your back in bed, looking up at the ceiling, ready for sleep
