Hemma is a gentle Goop who sews everything, even the things that should never, ever be sewn. When a mysterious gold thread pulls her down a smoking hole in the schoolyard, she lands on top of the Eiffel Tower, only it isn't in Paris. It's in Lahore, Pakistan, where the sky is full of birds of prey with an eye for anything shiny.

Kids will discover Lahore's very own Eiffel Tower, the black kites that circle its canals and decorate their nests with treasures, and phulkari, the flower embroidery that grandmothers stitch for their granddaughters and pass down for generations. Along the way they'll pick up four big words: precarious, audacious, formidable and resplendent.
