October 16: ST. GERARD MAJELLA: The Silent Wonder Worker

St. Gerard Majella was falsely accused of serious wrongdoing — and never once defended himself.

A humble Redemptorist brother known for astonishing miracles, from bilocating to healing the sick, Gerard accepted a false accusation from his superior without a word of protest, trusting God with his reputation entirely. Months later, the truth came out, and when asked why he never explained himself, Gerard simply pointed to his rule of silence.

"Does it not say in the rule that a penitent should not excuse himself?"
