The Queen and the Tripe-Seller

"The Queen and the Tripe-Seller" opens with a queen so ill-tempered that her entire palace lives in fear of her next outburst. When two fairies secretly swap her place with a humble tripe-seller who shares her exact face and figure, each woman spends a day in the other's life. The queen is scolded, shoved, and sent to bed hungry; the tripe-seller wins the whole court over with nothing but warmth and gratitude. The swap cannot stay hidden forever, and what follows is a reckoning neither woman — nor the king — could have predicted.
