The Transformation-Donkey

"The Transformation-Donkey" by R.H. Busk opens with a farmer's sheltered daughter making one small act of kindness — letting a tired old woman inside — that costs her everything she is. A bewitched tortoiseshell comb transforms her instantly into a donkey, leaving her trapped in a stable while her desperate parents hide their secret. Her only hope rests with a young nobleman who has been quietly watching her long before the curse, and who alone notices something strange about the new animal in the stall.
