What is the fourth dimension?

Imagine a whole universe completely flat like a piece of paper! There is no "up" and no "down"—just forwards, backwards, left, and right. In 1884, a headmaster named Edwin Abbott Abbott wrote a mind-bending story called Flatland about this exact idea! The people living in Flatland are flat shapes: triangles, circles, and a very confused square. Because they are totally flat, they can only ever see each other's edges as straight lines! But what happens when a solid, 3D sphere from our world visits Flatland? To the square, it looks like pure magic! A tiny dot appears out of nowhere, grows into a giant circle, shrinks, and then completely vanishes as the ball passes straight through the paper! The sphere even has to pull the square out of his universe to show him what "up" really means! Join Mira and Finn as they explore this incredible story and uncover a massive mathematical secret. Discover how scientists use Flatland to imagine a mind-blowing fourth dimension and learn what the shadow of a 4D tesseract looks like! Get ready to look at the universe in a completely different way!
