The Garden Tools

"The Garden Tools" brings a garden shed to life as a rake, trowel, hoe, lawn-mower, watering can, and their companions each argue their case for being the most indispensable. Each tool makes a surprisingly thoughtful defence — the trowel packs "a familiar handful of earth" for transplanted roots, the hoe keeps soil "interested" enough for string-beans to grow. The debate is lively, even funny, until the rake steps back and notices that the boasting itself is the only thing slowing the garden down.
