"The Cuckoo-Clock" follows Julius, a boy whose habit of staying up too late leaves him drowsy and bleary-eyed on a rainy afternoon. While watching the clock in the library, he falls into a half-dream where the little wooden cuckoo bird steps out and speaks directly to him — pointing out, with brisk authority, that time cannot be borrowed or bent. The bird's matter-of-fact lecture on punctuality and wasted hours leaves Julius with a burning face and a quietly changed perspective.
