Welcome, the Dog

"Welcome, the Dog" opens with an elderly woman whose only companion, a faithful old dog named Fred, is slowly dying of age. When Fred passes, she is left in quiet grief — until a lively young stray appears scratching at her door, bearing an uncanny resemblance to her beloved pet. As she walks the village street asking neighbours if anyone claims him, a gentle question forms: can a new bond ease an old loss without betraying it?
