One night, the Dream King sends the elephant to visit her in a dream, where it delivers a surprisingly calm and reasonable argument: being a stone elephant is perfectly fine, because it knows no loneliness, no boredom, no longing. The story gently probes the idea that unhappiness often comes from imagining others must feel as we do.
