The Monkey

"The Monkey" tells the story of Bobbie, a boy who spots an organ-grinder and his small monkey performing tricks in brutal summer heat, the animal dressed in a heavy red jacket and cap. While the rest of the village watches cheerfully, Bobbie notices the monkey's burning skin and desperate eyes. He confronts the man directly — voice shaking, half in tears — and offers every penny he owns if the man will simply give the creature relief. What follows is a quiet, unexpected moment of human decency.
