The Lion Babies

"The Lion Babies" opens on a mother lioness in her final days, tenderly nuzzling her cubs even as she searches the distance with worried eyes, sensing what is coming for them. When the cubs wake to find her gone, a hollow settles over them that no food can fill. Then, on the second morning, a large woolly sheepdog appears at the cage — unbidden, unhesitating — and quietly steps in to raise them as her own.
