Thanksgiving Day

"Thanksgiving Day" traces the origins of America's most enduring holiday back to a hundred courageous Pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower in 1620. Battered by storms, stranded north of their destination, and devastated by a brutal first winter, more than half their number perished — yet the survivors refused to leave. When the harvest finally came in 1621, their overwhelming relief and gratitude gave birth to a celebration that grew, through Washington and Lincoln, into a beloved national tradition.
