The Gun-Metal Watch

"The Gun-Metal Watch" opens with a girl discarding her unreliable wristwatch into an ash can in frustration. A girl from a poorer street finds it by chance and brings it home to her father — a fruit dealer who repairs watches out of quiet devotion to the craft. Where professional watchmakers failed, his patient understanding succeeds. The watch runs perfectly, and to its new owner it becomes the most precious thing she has ever held — proof that care and love transform an object's worth entirely.
