Christmas

"Christmas" by Eugene Field is a tender poem in which a father holds his child on his knee and retells the sacred story of Christmas — angels singing over Bethlehem, shepherds in the winter night, and the sacrifice at Calvary. Told in a recurring refrain of "once upon a time," the poem weaves together the intimacy of a parent's love with the weight of faith and remembrance, tracing how a story passed from grandmother to father now passes to a new generation.
