The Cat on the Dovrefell

"The Cat on the Dovrefell" is a Norwegian fairy tale in which a traveller carrying a great white bear asks shelter from Halvor, a farmer terrorised by trolls every Christmas Eve. When a pack of trolls invades the festive table and taunts the sleeping bear with a sausage, the results are spectacularly chaotic. The story turns on a brilliant bluff the following year, when Halvor's quick thinking keeps the trolls away for good.
