The Story of Speckle

The Story of Speckle is a gentle short story following a speckled white hen who sits patiently on her ten eggs through three long weeks of waiting. While the farm animals carry on around her — old Dobbin, the red cow, and Fritz the curious dog — Speckle barely leaves her nest, driven by quiet devotion. Kind little Phoebe brings her food and water each day. When the eggs finally crack open and ten yellow chicks emerge, Speckle leads her brood into the world for the very first time.
