The Polar Bear Plunge Day is a short story about Puddles, a curious polar bear living in wintry Canada, who hears about a human New Year's Day tradition and decides he belongs in it too. Arriving alone at a crowded beach on January 1st, Puddles sends everyone fleeing in panic — but instead of turning back, he takes the icy plunge anyway. His joyful splashing wins over a group of brave friends, and soon the whole shore joins in, ending with hot cocoa, cookies, and the start of something new.
