The Jolly Old Pumpkin

The Jolly Old Pumpkin is a playful Halloween short story following a wise yellow pumpkin who must outsmart a dull little knife to get his eyes back. The knife refuses to return them without a sharpening grindstone, sending the pumpkin on a rolling chain of favours — from farmyard to store to bank — where a mysterious little wee man with bags of gold finally breaks the deadlock. With rhyming demands and comic characters at every stop, the pumpkin races against Halloween Day to avoid becoming a pie.
