The Halloween Debate

The Halloween Debate is a short story set in an autumn town where a boastful boy declares that girls are too frightened to truly enjoy Halloween. A quick-witted girl in a cape of autumn leaves is not about to let that go unchallenged. She listens to his taunts, smiles coolly, and sets up a little test of courage — one involving a ghost and a very telling shriek. The story builds to a satisfying moment that turns the boy's bravado neatly on its head.
