Jack Frost’s Cards

"Jack Frost's Cards" is a short fantasy story in which Rudolph, a boy living on a mountain, is summoned by a goblin to witness a secret midnight revel in the forest. There, animals — rabbits, squirrels, bears, and owls — plead with the goblins to delay sending out Jack Frost's cards, the signals that turn the trees brown and announce winter's arrival. What unfolds is a lively negotiation between the creatures of the wild and the magical workers who govern the seasons.
