Uncle Wiggily And The Skates

Uncle Wiggily And The Skates is a short story in which a boy's impatience with his brand-new Christmas skates leads him onto a pond before the ice is ready to hold him. When he crashes through into the freezing water, it falls to Uncle Wiggily the rabbit gentleman and his sharp-toothed beaver friends Toodle and Noodle to engineer a daring rescue — without the boy ever realising he had help. The story builds quiet tension between the boy's eagerness and the thinning ice beneath his feet.
