The Selfish Giant

The Selfish Giant is a fairy tale by Oscar Wilde in which a Giant returns home to find children joyfully playing in his beautiful garden — and furiously walls them out. His punishment is an eternal winter that grips his garden alone while spring blooms everywhere else. When a tiny boy too small to reach the branches of a frost-locked tree moves the Giant to open both his gate and his heart, the seasons finally turn. But the mysterious little boy vanishes, and the Giant spends years quietly longing for the one child who showed him what love truly costs.
