The story of the amber beads
The Story of the Amber Beads is a short story in which Mother Nature herself explains the origins of a remarkable necklace owned by Jeanie, a young Highland girl. Each golden amber bead holds something frozen in time — a fly with wings outstretched, a bee, a beetle, pine needles, and moss. The necklace was carved by her grandfather from a lump found on the shore after a storm, but Jeanie wonders how it got there and how living things came to rest inside stone. Mother Nature's answer stretches back to ancient forests, flowing tree resin, and a coastline swallowed by the sea.
