The Proud Little Apple Blossom

The Proud Little Apple Blossom is a short fable by Hans Christian Andersen set in a May orchard bursting into bloom. When a princess plucks an apple blossom and courtiers praise its beauty, the blossom grows vain — and begins to look down on the humble dandelion growing wild in the field. But a playful sunbeam, laughing children, a healing old woman, and finally the princess herself each reveal a worth in the little yellow flower that pride had blinded the blossom from seeing.
