How the Buttercup Became Yellow

"How the Buttercup Became Yellow" is a fairy tale by Abbie Phillips Walker that explains why buttercups bloom golden among the daisies. The White Cups long for a richer color but need help getting it — and the solution involves outwitting mischievous Goblins. With the Fairy Queen's quiet cunning and a whispered love song used as bait, a playful plot is set in motion on a moonlit field. The story turns on trust, cleverness, and a secret that the buttercups must keep forever to hold onto the beauty they earned.
