The Quest For The Nightingale

"The Quest For The Nightingale" is a free fairy tale by Maud Lindsay following Pease-Blossom, a young fairy who falls asleep on watch duty and allows goblins to steal the queen's beloved nightingale. Sent to redeem himself alone, he journeys across dewy fields, through a hawk's bill, over the Silver Sea, and down a soot-black chimney into a sleeping Giant's room — where the nightingale waits in a golden cage just inches from the Giant's reach. Each step closer to the cage brings a new, breathless near-disaster.
