The Birds’ Christmas

"The Birds' Christmas" is a charming short story in which Mrs. Chickadee rallies her woodland friends — Robin Rusty-breast, Downy Woodpecker, and Snow Bunting — to rescue Thistle Goldfinch, a young bird who stubbornly stayed behind when his family flew south for the winter. Now stranded in the snow and slowly starving, Thistle's fate rests on his neighbours' kindness. The story builds gently toward a Christmas morning surprise that rewards the birds' generosity in an unexpected and joyful way.
