He checks several empty locations before mistakenly thinking a cat's penny bank is his prize, but honestly returns it when the owner appears. Befriending the cat, they search together until nightfall leaves them lost in the woods; demonstrating bravery and resourcefulness, Uncle Wiggily builds a comforting campfire which later proves essential in scaring away the menacing wushky-woshky, allowing them to safely spend the night and continue their journey together the next day.
