The Goblin at the Grocer’s

"The Goblin at the Grocer's" is a short story by Hans Christian Andersen about a small goblin who lives contentedly in a grocer's shop, grateful for his annual bowl of porridge. Everything changes when a poor student trades cheese for a battered poetry book, and the goblin peers through a keyhole to witness something extraordinary — a vision of living light, blooming trees, and unearthly music pouring from its pages. Suddenly torn between the warmth and comfort of the shop and the transcendent wonder he has glimpsed upstairs, the goblin must decide where he truly belongs.
