The Christmas Promise

The Christmas Promise is a short fairy tale about a beloved harper summoned to the king's palace, who vows to return home by Christmas Day to share pudding and songs by his own fireside. When the time comes, the king tempts him with a white horse, a magical tree, and a crown — yet the harper refuses them all. Snow buries the roads, wind freezes the rivers, and darkness swallows the forest, but nothing can make him break the promise he made to his wife, his child, and his little brown dog.
