The Elephant and the Tailor

"The Elephant and the Tailor" is a short story featuring two vivid tales that reveal the remarkable intelligence and moral sense of domesticated elephants in South East Asia. In the first, a spiteful tailor who pricks an elephant's trunk with a needle soon discovers the animal's long memory and sharp sense of justice. In the second, a rampaging elephant — maddened by a cruel sitter — makes a split-second choice that stuns an entire crowd watching in terror.
