Little Ida’s Flowers

Little Ida's Flowers is a short story by Hans Christian Andersen in which a young girl discovers why her beloved bouquet has wilted overnight. Her imaginative cousin reveals the secret: the flowers spent the night dancing at the king's summer palace. When Ida sneaks out of bed in the dark, she finds her mother's flowers swirling across the living room floor, her doll Sofie among them. By morning, the magic has vanished — but the flowers leave Ida with a quiet, tender task to carry out in the garden.
