Gepetto carves a wooden puppet, Pinocchio, who magically comes to life. Eager to learn, Pinocchio is often distracted, selling his schoolbook for a puppet show and later being tricked out of money meant for Gepetto. He lies, causing his nose to grow, and is turned into a donkey for skipping school. After being swallowed by a shark, he reunites with Gepetto. Upon returning home and hearing the fairy is ill, Pinocchio selflessly gives his money to her. As a reward for his kind heart, the fairy transforms him into a real boy, and they live happily ever after.
