"The Little Red Hen" is a fable about a hen who finds a wheat seed and asks for help from a pig, a cat, and a rat to plant, harvest, thresh, and grind the wheat. Each time, they refuse. The hen does all the work herself. When the bread is finally baked, the pig, cat, and rat eagerly offer to eat it, but the Little Red Hen refuses, declaring, "No, you won't. I will," and eats the bread herself, teaching a lesson about the importance of contributing to work.
