The Three Purses

"The Three Purses" tells the legend of Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, who discovers a nobleman too poor to provide his three daughters with dowries — leaving the young women unable to marry the men they love. Under cover of darkness, the saint throws purses of gold through the family's window, one by one, transforming their despair into hope. When the grateful father finally catches his mysterious benefactor in the act, Saint Nicholas's quiet, selfless generosity is revealed — though he begs the nobleman to keep his identity secret.
