Santa Claus

"Santa Claus" is a Christmas poem by Banjo Paterson in which a sentry challenges a mysterious white-clad figure who appears at a military camp on Christmas night. The stranger carries no countersign, only gifts of memory — a New Zealand fern, an English rose, and tender thoughts from wives and loved ones far away. Despite the sentry's duty, the visitor slips through, and only at dawn do the soldiers realise who walked among them.
