December

"December" is a lyrical poem by Christina Rossetti in which the month of December speaks in the first person, proudly claiming its place among the year's months. Despite its short, dim days, December brims with inner light and festive warmth. As the month weaves a wreath of ivy, holly, and mistletoe, it dismisses Spring's snowdrops and birdsong — for December alone holds a carol heard by shepherds in a wintry field, an unmistakable echo of Christmas.
