Cherry Pie

Cherry Pie is a Christmas short story about young Elsie Perch, who lives in a crowded tenement building and wrestles with envy toward a wealthier girl from Sunday school. When neighbourhood children gather outside on Christmas Eve, talk turns to Grandma Perch's legendary canned-cherry pie — a treat none of the poorer children have ever tasted. Elsie's quiet longing and the hungry faces around her spark an impulsive act of generosity that tests whether there is enough pie for everyone, and what real abundance looks like.
