A Conscience Pudding

"A Conscience Pudding" follows the Bastable children through a chaotic Christmas while their father is away and money is tight. Determined to make a proper Christmas pudding, they secretly collect money from neighbours by implying it is for "poor children" — until young H.O. innocently reveals the truth. What follows is a scramble to restore the family's honour: a soap-flavoured pudding, an angry stranger, a cold walk to the workhouse, and an unexpectedly warm ending that rescues the day from complete disgrace.
