The Three Kings of Cologne

"The Three Kings of Cologne" retells the legend of Melchior, Balthazar, and Jasper — three kings from Ind, Chaldea, and Persia who follow a blazing star across perilous lands to find the newborn Christ in Bethlehem. Strangers to one another, they meet by chance outside Jerusalem and journey on together with reverence and joy. What they find in that small, radiant house moves them to offer the first gifts that come to hand — gold, incense, and myrrh — before a divine warning turns them away from Herod's reach.
