The Mail-Coach Passengers

"The Mail-Coach Passengers" by Hans Christian Andersen brings the twelve months of the year to life as a coach full of eccentric strangers arrives at a town gate on New Year's Eve. January stomps in wearing fur boots, February shouts carnival songs, May drifts out smelling of wild thyme, and old Mother December cradles a little fir tree destined for Christmas. Each passenger carries luggage, habits, and gifts that quietly shape the year ahead — though what they will truly bring remains uncertain even to themselves.
