The White Hare and the Crocodiles

"The White Hare and the Crocodiles" is a Japanese folk tale about a small white hare desperate to cross the sea from the Island of Oki to the mainland of Inaba. Using cunning flattery, he tricks a group of crocodiles into forming a living bridge — then mocks them the moment he reaches the other shore. The crocodiles take brutal revenge, stripping his fur and leaving him raw and broken on the beach. What follows tests whether a creature who deceived others deserves compassion — and who among those passing by is truly worth trusting.
