The Toad

"The Toad" follows a small, ugly toad who escapes the depths of a dark well, driven by an irresistible longing to go higher — always higher. From dusty roadsides and frog ponds to a farmhouse garden, she journeys through a world far larger than anything she imagined. Along the way, she crosses paths with a philosophizing caterpillar, a contemptuous stork, and two young scholars debating whether a jewel lies hidden inside her head. The story builds quietly toward the question of what that jewel truly is.
