The Turnip

"The Turnip" is a Brothers Grimm short story following a poor soldier turned gardener whose extraordinarily massive turnip — too large for two oxen to pull comfortably — leads him to present it as a gift to the king, transforming his fortunes overnight. When his wealthy brother learns of this reward, jealousy drives him to murderous scheming. The plot takes a darkly comic turn when the intended victim, left hanging in a sack, outwits a passing student with a clever tale about a "sack of wisdom."
