Sunshine Stories

"Sunshine Stories" is a short story by Hans Christian Andersen in which Sunshine herself takes the floor from the bickering Wind and Rain to tell of a golden swan that drifts through the world, leaving quiet miracles behind. A feather becomes a merchant's fortune, a fallen leaf becomes a shepherd boy's path to learning, a golden egg brings gifts to four brothers — a sculptor, a painter, a composer, and a poet — and a piece of amber fills a poor fisherman's home with warmth. Each encounter asks what it means to carry fortune lightly.
