The Remarkable Rocket

"The Remarkable Rocket" is a short story by Oscar Wilde following a deeply self-important firework who believes the entire royal wedding exists in his honour. While the other fireworks light up the night sky in dazzling celebration, the Rocket weeps so extravagantly over imaginary tragedies that his gunpowder is soaked through. Tossed into a ditch, he holds court over a frog, a duck, and a dragonfly — none of whom are remotely impressed — all while his genius goes magnificently, hilariously unwitnessed.
