The Hoodie-crow

The Hoodie-crow is a Scottish fairy tale short story in which the youngest of three farmer's daughters agrees to marry a strange crow who is secretly a man by day. Their life together is shadowed by a mysterious force that steals their children one by one while the whole household sleeps. When a broken spell tears the hoodie away, his wife sets off alone across a hill of poison — arming herself at a smithy, following his trail through night and light — to reach him before he is lost to her forever.
